I REFER to the letter in the Oberon Review last week from Marg Armstrong concerning the rumoured possibility of the Oberon Museum closing down.

When I read this letter, two old sayings came to mind: "never take things for granted” and ”you do not realise how important it is until it is gone”.
Like recorded or written history, the contents of any museum are part of the fabric that is the foundation of the identity and culture that we have today as a community and a nation.
A museum is a trusted safe-keeper of historical items.
Every item in a museum has a story that is attached to it about either an individual, a period in time, an event or period of need. It in essence underwrites the pride we have in our forebears and where we have come from.
Having said this, I am not sure what can be done to save our museum, acknowledging that I understand it has only survived in recent years due to the efforts of a willing few people.
In the belief that there are many others who feel the same way, perhaps we could contact Marg Armstrong with the view of suggesting that we have a meeting of those people interested in ensuring that our museum survives and to see what can be done to help?
