Damien Ariolla, 23, of Dart Street, Oberon, appeared in person and unrepresented before magistrate Michael Allen in Bathurst Local Court on January 8.
Police facts tendered to the court told how the accused and the victim went out to celebrate New Year’s Eve on December 31 last year.
The following day, on January 1, Ariolla began drinking again, and as a result he and the victim began to argue.
The victim told police Ariolla began “schizing out” by punching himself, punching the walls and yelling at the victim, calling her a “mother [expletive].”
The victim screamed back at the accused, and the argument escalated. The victim decided to leave and go to a motel, but as she attempted to go, the accused ripped open her bag of clothing over the front lawn and said: “[expletive] off.”
He then picked up a small Vaseline container and hit the victim in the back of the head with it, causing her to develop a headache.
When she left, he went to the motel, banging on the door and asking her to come home.
She refused, and Ariolla began yelling at her, with bystanders intervening and telling him to leave.
Police were called, with Ariolla telling them in an interview he was “pissed” and he remembered arguing with the victim and ripping open her bag of clothes. Mr Allen convicted Ariolla, placing him on a Section 9 bond for 12 months.
