The playground area will be closed from this week to allow for maintenance work on ageing equipment which will also be assessed for its alignment with contemporary safety standards.
However, the rest of the popular picnic area near the dam wall – including the amenities - will remain open to visitors from 7.30am to 8pm as per usual.
WaterNSW says Oberon Dam, on the Fish River, is at 75 per cent of its storage capacity.
The dam is open to kayaks and canoes.
As the dam sits 1068 metres above sea level, it is classed as alpine water and life jackets must be worn at all times.
Information on recreational activities at the dam is available from the Oberon Visitors’ Information Centre in Ross Street.
