It was Oberon's open weekend, where we show off our course to visiting clubs.
This year we had golfers from Bermagui, Lithgow, Bathurst, Blackheath, Warringah, Penrith, Cabramatta, Portland, Wallacia and Henbury golf clubs.
A 4BBB stableford event was played on Saturday, with some of our local women participating.
The winning pair was Bob Rickard and Alan Cairney, closely followed by Kim Rawlings and Brian Roberts.
The mixed event was won by Laurie Murphy and Irene Bishop and the ladies pairing of Glennie McGrath and Robyn Stapleton were winners.
A good field of 63 played a stroke event and a stableford on Sunday.
Andrew Burton from Lithgow, who is no stranger to the Oberon course, had a fine round of 72, just two over par, to be the scratch winner.
Runner-up on 74 was Chris Rumble from Cabramatta.
The handicap event was won by Alan Cairney with an excellent round of 64 nett, closely followed by Timothy Crichton with 65 nett. Kyall Ryan was the stableford winner, with Robert Hayden the runner-up, both on 37 points.
Visiting from Henbury, Toby Mullholland was the B grade scratch winner, closely followed by Laurie Murphy, both on 85.
The B grade handicap winner was D Mara from Lithgow (68 nett) and the stableford winner was Greg Lesburg from Bathurst with 36 points.
Longest drive in A grade went to Col Stockley and the B grade longest drive went to Laurie Murphy.
One of our feature events for the weekend is the Keith Cleton Memorial trophy for the best local aggregate over Saturday and Sunday events. Tim Crichton was the winner with a great aggregate of 79.
Golf next Saturday will be an 18-hole stroke event playing for the Monthly Medal sponsored by Brian Balaam. Don't forget the Christmas Ambrose on December 16 sponsored by the Big Trout Motor Inn.
In the next few weeks, the golf club kitchen will be open for meals on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
Friday is the first of the month, so come along and enjoy a meal and good company.
