LAST Thursday's men’s golf was a bit quieter as only 14 players tested their skills in the sunshine.

Don Miller had a good afternoon and took the honours. Balls for ability went to Bill Wilcox, Lloyd Roots and Hugh O'Neil.

The Golf Club hosted the annual Oberon Council Golf Day on Friday. There was a huge response for this event, with very good support from sponsors.

A large field of 220 players registered for the event on what turned out to be a very pleasant day.

The council staff who organised the event and the participants are to be congratulated on the marvellous success of the event.

One of the features of the day was the hole-in-one shootout on the first hole in the afternoon. A Caterpillar digger was up for grabs if anyone managed to be lucky enough to score a hole in one.

Golf on Saturday was washed out due to the lovely rain.

Next weekend is a big weekend for men's golf. On Saturday the event is a 4BBB, including a mixed fourball.

On Sunday it is the Open. Players will play a stroke and stableford event with nearest the pins and longest drive in A and B grade.

Borg Manufacturing is the major sponsor of the event, supported by CRT and Wills’ Tyres.

It is coming around to the time of the year where members need to be organising their teams for the Christmas Ambrose event sponsored by the Big Trout Motor Inn.
