Ten local businesses were given two horses each. The remaining horses were drawn by the Oberon Review with selected charities as the benefactor.
In this year's Melbourne Cup horse number 22, Rekindling, charged to victory and Oberon Hospital Auxiliary was the lucky charity to collect the money.
Oberon Hospital Auxiliary president Annabelle Gilbert said the auxiliary was most grateful for the donation.
“There’s a lot of scone and cake cooking to make this amount of money,” she said.
“Any funds raised goes back into resources for our local Oberon Hospital. It was only last week we managed to buy a new lift chair and extra equipment is always needed.”
The auxiliary meets regularly with the next meeting on Friday, November 17 at 2pm at the Robey Centre and the next bingo afternoon is Friday, November 24.
“We welcome new members to come along and join in the fun,” Ms Gilbert said.
