After our long and difficult fight for survival, it is gratifying that so many people hold Oberon in such high regard.
With so many to choose from, it will be difficult to know who to vote for and thus very important to make the correct choice.
Oberon needs councillors whose primary allegiance is to this town and district and who are not prepared to sell us out when we face the next crisis.
We need representatives who have supported Oberon both commercially and culturally and have demonstrated this commitment by their membership and involvement in local sporting, cultural and service clubs and supporting the local business houses.
We must avoid at all costs single issue candidates who have suddenly appeared on the horizon with an axe to grind. This type of candidate will be of little benefit to the council and is likely to cause disharmony.
Remember the struggle against amalgamation and only vote for those who supported Oberon during those trying times and have used Oberon as their community and commercial hub. Such candidates have our interest at heart and will provide the impetus for Oberon to prosper.
When voting, please number all boxes with your preference for the candidates. In this way, all your preferences will be exhausted.
In fact, work out your preferences at home and bring the list with you on polling day so that you do not get flustered in the voting booth.
