THE Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway (OTHR) Committee are celebrating their success in securing both a Heritage Operator’s Licence (HOL) and accreditation to operate section cars on the Oberon station precinct area.

“In simple terms, HOL is rather like a lease on the ground, but it allows OTHR members to use the ground for heritage rail operations,” an OTHR spokesperson said.
“OTHR members had previously operated under a licence found to be defective and it was voluntary surrendered in favour of the new licence.
“The accreditation to operate section cars and work on the rail line was granted by the Office of National Rail Safety Regulator, which is the the national auditing organisation that makes sure OTHR is doing everything in their safety management systems.”
The spokesperson said this was “an important step in getting a train running on the tracks”.
“It means OTHR will be able to use its fleet of section cars within the Oberon precinct. In due course OTHR will apply for accreditation to shunt the locos they own within the yard.”
