The walls of the gallery, which is at the back of her Hazelgrove property, are hung with oil and water paintings of various sizes she has finished since moving to Oberon in 2002.
Rotary Club of Oberon members were treated to a tour of the 705 Gallery, at 705 Nunans Hill Road, Hazelgrove, to view Ms Heath’s paintings on Tuesday, September 26.
Upon walking into the gallery, members’ eyes were captivated by a large painting featuring an arrangement of vases with bright yellow daffodils and cream poppies.
Ms Heath said the painting was called East Meets West.
“The large Chinese vase was a gift from a Chinese student when I was teaching English at St John’s Cathedral in Parramatta,” she said.
“The prancing horse is a copy of a Deng Dynasty figurine and the daffodils are out of my garden.”
Most of Ms Heath’s paintings are inspired by nature and the plants in her garden, like the one of the Indian Diamond Liliums in a six-sided blue and white Chinese vase.
The bright orange liliums seem to jump right off the canvas like a 3D movie.
“This one took me three months to paint,” Ms Heath said.
“It was a challenge to paint that vase so it didn’t look lopsided.”
Another interesting canvas, inspired by the Bible, is called Seed, Promise And Light. The Norfolk pine seeds were collected from Dee Why Beach.
“They represent the seeds of life and the full circular rainbow represents the Light of God and his promise to never flood the earth again,” Ms Heath said.
Ms Heath grew up in Coolac and attended Coolac Central School, where she studied art. It was here where her love of art and painting first started to blossom. She taught herself to draw ladies’ hats and accessories by copying them from comic books. Her mother, also an artist, taught her how to hold and use a brush.
It wasn’t until eight years ago that she started to paint seriously as a professional.
The gallery is a new venture for Ms Heath, who has also branched out into the Tarana Markets, where she sells some of her works on calendars and cards.
The 705 Gallery is having a sale and many of Ms Heath’s paintings are greatly reduced. The gallery is open every Saturday from 1pm to 4pm.
