It was pleasing to see Graham Hotham striking the ball sweetly again. His 25 points was enough to win the day.
Balls went to Bill Wilcox, Kim Rawlings, Lloyd Roots, Hugh O'Neil, Harold Lyme, Don Miller and Peter Dale. Rumour has it that Hugh had a hole in one on the 17th hole. I think that might be the first on that particular hole.
Well done, Hugh.
A good field of 34 played a 4BBB stableford aggregate and an individual stableford event on Saturday.
There was pretty strong competition in the 4BBB event. A great combined effort from Mick McKechnie and Kim Rawlings with 71 stableford points won the event. They were closely followed by Kevin McGrath and Roger Arrow on 70 points.
The individual event in A grade was won by a visitor, Will Elliot, with a good score of 39 points. The runner-up was Neil Whalan with a solid round of 38 points. Mick McKechnie had a marvellous round of 40 points to win B grade, while Laurie Murphy was the distant runner-up with 36 points.
Nearest the pin on the first was Dennis O'Connell, just 82 centimetres from the flag, Roger Arrow was 1.7 metres from the seventh and Darren Gordon was only 110cm from the ninth.
Balls for ability went to Scott Rowlandson, Rob McGrath, Roger Arrow, Laurie Murphy, Neil Whalan and Darren Gordon.
Golf next week will be the normal Thursday afternoon 12-hole competition. Newcomers are always welcome.
Saturday golf will be a stableford event.
On Sunday, Oberon hosts the district final of the Keno men's 4BBB par event. Oberon will be represented by the pairing of Robert Hayden and Terry Robinson and the pairing of Mick McKechnie and Brian Roberts.
Members are reminded that on Sunday, September 10 we will host at least 16 members of the Oatlands Club.
We will be playing golf and then enjoying a meal prepared by their chef. We need as many members, including ladies, as possible to join us for the day.
Oberon is hosting the Blue Mountains Championships on September 17. There is a starting sheet in the clubhouse, so please fill in your time slots.
The club has a function planned on Sunday, August 27 to farewell Ray and Margaret Ross.
Ray has made a wonderful contribution to the club over his time in Oberon.
He and Margaret have also contributed to a number of other community organisations.
Golfers and other community members are welcome to come and enjoy a meal and wish them well on their move.
