Ms Lyon, who was elected to council in 1976 for a four-year term, will be contesting the upcoming Oberon Council election on Saturday, September 9.
“I had young children in those days, but now I have the time to dedicate to the job,” she said.
“I'm familiar with the protocols and understand the workings of council. I understand the responsibility and the time that will be required.
“I will throw my hat into the ring and I'm very impressed with the way Oberon Council has dealt with all the difficulties they have faced over the last four years with threatened mergers and staff changes.”
Ms Lyon has lived in Oberon for nearly 45 years and said in that time she had seen many improvements, such as the new hospital, new high school, main street beautification, the establishment of parks and gardens and improvements to the swimming pool.
“My main aims would be to establish a heated indoor swimming complex suitable for all year usage and improvements and upkeep to all parks,” she said.
“I'm proud to say I live in Oberon. It is a great place to run a business, raise a family and now a great place to retire."
