The Oberon Review reported last week that a motion had been moved by Cr Clive McCarthy and carried at the most recent ordinary council meeting not to proceed with the Oberon East sewerage project until more options were considered.
Cr McCarthy told the Review there had been no consultation with affected landholders.
Cr Sajowitz has clarified, however, that a motion was put to the June council meeting by Cr McCarthy about the sewerage project, but it was defeated.
"It was defeated because there is an existing motion that an extensive options study be commissioned to look at the scope available in relation to the sewerage works upgrade project council is undertaking as the result of the grant funding received earlier this year," Cr Sajowitz said.
"Amongst other things, the so-called 'Oberon East Project' may well be looked at as part of this options study which, when completed, will be reviewed by council.
"Should any options as a result of the study be considered by council, an intensive community engagement process will then be undertaken."
Cr Sajowitz said there were no affected landholders at this point in time.
"We await the options study," she said.
"The upgrade of the sewerage system is a major project and will happen over an extended period of time after an extensive and thorough investigation and planning process has occurred. Due to the substantial investment Oberon Council will be making in relation to this upgrade, it would be remiss of council not to at least look at all options available to maximise the benefits of the project."
