“The NSW Government is committed to the building of road infrastructure that will reduce transport costs for regional businesses,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The upgrade to Beaconsfield and Sewells Creek roads will allow longer vehicles, carrying more load, to use this significant timber freight route.
“This will provide a boost to the Oberon timber industry which employs almost a fifth of the town’s population.”
The project received $890,000 in funding under the NSW Government’s Restart NSW Fixing Country Roads program, which provides funding to local councils.
Oberon Council, which managed the project, also contributed $100,000.
The work on the project was completed in two stages. Stage one included vegetation clearing and stage two involved the widening and upgrading of part of Sewells Creek Road, between Mayfield Road and Greywacke Road.
Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said the road upgrade will enable more logs to be transported on longer 23-metre B-double trucks.
“The increased road widths and turning areas means the more economical and environmentally-friendly 23 metre B-doubles can be used to deliver timber to the Oberon timber complex,” he said.
