Robie Porter, also known as Rob EG, is an Australian country, pop-rock muscian, producer and record label owner.
Australian music artists discovered, signed, produced and launched internationally by Porter and his Wizard Records company include Daddy Cool, Marcia Hines, Air Supply, Rick Springfield, Tommy Emmanuel, Hush and Colleen Hewitt who all had number one hits.
Under his guidance and direction, these artists have won US Grammy, ARIA Awards, US Song of the Year, numerous Single and Album of the Year awards and The Australian Record of the Century Award with "Eagle Rock".
On the advice of The Beatles' manager, Brian Epstein, Porter moved to the UK in 1964 where he wrote and recorded singles for Festival Records. During 1967 he moved to the USA and appeared in several television shows - Malibu U, Daniel Boone, Mannix and The Immortal.
Porter's own number one and top ten hit singles include 55 Days At Peking, Si Senor, Jezebel, When You’re Not Near, Whiplash, Gemini, 5-4-3-2-1 Zero, plus five Gold and Platinum albums.
Now, after a 42-year hiatus from performing, Porter returned to the stage with “The Return Of Rob EG – Behind The Number One Hits” show, which he first performed in 2014 at a sold-out charity and fundraising concerts at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, and then at the famed Sydney Rock’n’Roll venue, The Basement, where it broke the mid-week attendance record.
Porter said he is pleased to have Phil Emmanuel performing with him at his show at the RSL Club in June.
"I've known Tommy and Phil since they were children. They are both very talented musicians. Phil loves his music and we have a great show touring at the moment.
"I've known Oberon RSL Club manager Peter Price for years and to bring the show to Oberon is great. Oberon people might not know, but Peter is an accomplished drummer. We may even be able to get him on stage on the night."
The Wizard from OZ show will be on at the RSL Club on Friday June 16 from 8.30pm.
