Oberon sporting news

Men’s Golf: There was a good field on Thursday afternoon to play the 12 hole competition. Llyod Roots has shown it is not taking long to master the game. He had a good round to win the afternoons golf. Balls went to Doug Collins, Hugh O'Neil, Kim Rawlings, Paul Behan and Brian Balaam. On Saturday golfers played a 4BBB Par event and and individual Par event. Doug Collins has been showing some good form and with the good score of plus five won the individual on a count back from Mick McKechnie also on plus five.

There were some very good four balls scores registered with some  good team combinations.  Robert Hayden and Terry Robinson combined exceptionally well and put together a great +12 to win the day. Not far behind was the pairing of Brian Roberts and Mick McKechnie on +11, they were closely followed by Laurie Murphy and Tim Crichton on +10. Nearest the pin on the first went to Llyod Roots, Barry Lang was closest on the seventh Linore Zamparini won the ninth and Kyall Ryan was closest on the 17th.

Golf next Saturday will be an 18 hole three person Ambrose. This is a good opportunity to invite a prospective golfer or a friend who needs to be more regular and make up a team of three. Thank you to members doing odd jobs around the course, it makes a huge difference.

Women’s Golf: Fifteen ladies played in the first round of the Arrow Family Trophy competition last week in excellent golfing conditions. The fairways were in great shape, as were the greens but the rough was unforgiving! The stroke round, which included a putting competition, was also for the Monthly Medal and was the fourth round of the Golf NSW Medal.

The winner in Division 1 and winner of the Monthly Medal by a good margin was Robyn Stapleton with 69 nett. In second place was Robyn Slattery with 76 nett and in third place was Glennie McGrath with 79 nett. Robyn Stapleton also won the putting competition with 32 putts. In Division 2, the winner was Barbara Coleman with 77 nett on a countback from Bev Dale. In third place was Vonda Voytilla with 78 nett. Yvonne Collins won the putting competition.

Netball News: The netball Hotshots team ran away with a 40 to nil win against Scots Cubs on Saturday. Sophie, Makayla, Zia, Cady, Georgia, Neive and Janae all had good games with some great intercepts. Special mention to Kayla who played in defence. She put all her skills she has learnt at training into practice on the court.

Indoor Bowls: May 23 indoor bowls will start play at 7pm and players names are to be in between 6.45pm and 7pm in the Oberon RSL Club's auditorium on the night of play. New players are welcome to come and try indoor bowling. Junior players between 12 to 18 years must be accompanied by an adult.

On May 9 there were five resters scored and the two players with resters were Inge Bruan with two and Lynette with three. Skip Kevin Whalan and Lynette Maloney were the doubles team winners with 17 points and Skip Kathryn and Inge Braun were runners up with a score of 11. Well done to all players and see you next Tuesday.
