At the March meeting, Luke McFarlane was elected as the youth mayor, with Lisa Safranek elected as the media co-ordinator.
Over the next few weeks, we will introduce you to many of our youth councillors.
Luke McFarlane
I would like to see the youth council promoted and be involved in fundraising and activities.
I AM 17 years old and in year 11 at Oberon High School.
I have lived in Oberon all my life and my favourite things to do are playing the piano and other instruments in the school band.
I also enjoy reading, skateboarding and martial arts.
I joined the Oberon Youth Council almost two years ago.
I have enjoyed meeting new people through organising events for local youth, such as the annual community fun run/walk or disco, and fundraising for local youth undertaking cultural, arts, sports or other adventures.
Lisa Safranek
I AM 18 years old and finished year 12 in 2016.
I am having a gap year before commencing studies at Macquarie University.
If I'm not working, you can find me with one of my many books, glued to an anime, or following my Youtubers.
I joined the Oberon Youth Council three years go to meet people my age in town and help provide activities for the youth.
I would like to see the youth council promoted and be involved in fundraising and activities to increase opportunities for the youth of Oberon.
My role at the OYC is the media co-ordinator and I will be promoting a different youth councillor each week.
Fundraising
THE OYC is about to choose a youth to fundraise for during the next six months at the April meeting.
OYC members will also be determining an event to hold in the second half of 2017 for the Oberon youth.
