The reusable bags, which are at the entrance to the Foodworks store, are available for free to residents.
Oberon Rotary member Brenda Lyon said shoppers can grab a bag and use it every time they shop or return it if they no longer need it.
"We welcome interested members of the community, other organisations, schools and students and other businesses to partner with us in making more reusable Rotary Boomerang Bags out of recycled materials and make them available to the community in order to make this a sustainable project,” she said.
"Through Boomerangs we can work towards shifting society's throw-away mentality to a more sustainable revolution of reuse - one community, needle and thread at a time!"
