Mayor Kathy Sajowitz made the point when she attended a Chifley LAC meeting last month with Oberon Council deputy general manager Gary Wallace and representatives from Bathurst and Lithgow councils.
In her report to council, Cr Sajowitz said the overall crime rates in the region were steady or declining for the period from December 2016 to February 2017, with the exception of motor vehicle theft, which rose slightly.
Cr Sajowitz said she brought to the attention of the command that even with four designated officers in town, they were often required to be elsewhere.
"The fact that resources are stretched at this particular time, those resources occasionally need to be deployed as required,” Cr Sajowitz reported. “It is envisaged the situation will improve in the near future.”
Cr Sajowitz also asked about the possibility of the successful Coffee With A Cop initiative coming to Oberon.
“This project has concluded, but there is a possibility of something similar coming to town in the near future,” she said.
