MEMBERS played the first two rounds of the championships over the weekend. At this stage there are no clear winners; that will come down to the last two rounds to be played next weekend. There was a solid field of golfers on Saturday and a smaller field on Sunday.

In the Saturday results, Timothy Crichton played an excellent opening round of 74/65 to win A grade, the monthly medal and the scratch ball. Runner-up was Robert Hayden with 78/70. Peter Ryan played well to win B grade with 86/67. Peter won the B grade monthly medal and scratch ball.
Sam Gascoigne showed he hadn't forgotten how to play the game and after a break was the runner-up with a handy 91/68. Barry Lang won the A grade putting with 29 putts and Dick O'Donnell won the B grade putting with 27 putts. Nearest the pin was Doug Collins on the first, Anthony McGrath on the seventh, nobody got a measure on the ninth and Neil Whalan claimed the 17th. Balls went to Robbie Armstrong, Terry Robinson, Darren Gordon, Anthony McGrath, Bob Slattery, Marty Hotham and Brian Roberts.
The second round of the championships was played on Sunday and some trends began to appear. In A grade, Robert Hayden had another solid round of 77/70 to ease ahead with a total of 155. The runner-up was Alan Cairney with a good round of 81/70. In B grade, Dennis O'Connell won with 88/71 and the runner-up was Terry Robinson with 90/73. Nearest the pin was Barry Lang on the first and Alan Cairney on the ninth. Balls went to Anthony McGrath and Mick English.
The highlight of the weekend was an eagle on the 11th hole by captain Barry.
The state of play in the championships is: A grade Robert Hayden 155, Kyall Ryan 160, Tim Crichton 162, Mick English 168. These four will tee off at 11am on Saturday. In B grade, it’s Alan Cairney 168, Anthony McGrath 170, Darren Gordon 172 and Brian Roberts 172. They will tee off at 10.55am.
C grade is wide open at this stage as they will have the best two stableford scores over the two weeks counted.
First Friday of the month dinner will be held at the club this week. The club annual meeting will be coming up at the end of the month.
