Luke McFarlane, who has been a youth councillor for almost two years, was nominated and voted in as the youth mayor for 2017 at a recent Oberon Youth Council meeting.
Lisa Safranek, a youth councillor for three years and a founding member of the Oberon Youth Council (OYC), was also nominated and voted in as the youth media co-ordinator.
The OYC aims to voice the opinions and concerns of young people in Oberon to Oberon Council; to raise awareness of health, well-being and safety issues that affect the young people of Oberon; and to develop a sense of citizenship in the young people of Oberon by developing an involvement in community projects.
OYC conducted a fun run on Saturday before the Oberon Democracy Day celebrations. OYC was also very busy on the barbecue at the celebration.
Those who are interested in becoming a member of the OYC are asked to contact Oberon Council’s community services co-ordinator Kathy Beesley on 6329 8156.
