Organisers say they want to keep up Oberon's reputation for innovative and quality works made from “upcycled” material – upcycled being the new word for recycled.
This year has been designated as the year of plastic bags and soft plastic packaging by Netwaste, which runs the competition, but organisers say all and any material that might otherwise be thrown away can be used to make “stunning artworks and functional items”.
Bathurst Regional Art Gallery will be running Waste to Art Easter school holiday workshops for children aged six to 17 featuring soft plastic creations, crazy chandeliers, and animals.
Booking are essential for the workshops.
Call 6333 6555 for more information.
Winning entries from Oberon's exhibition will be sent on to the regional exhibition in Orange which will run from July 8 through to August 5.
Entry forms are available from Oberon Library, Oberon Council offices, at schools, or phone mayor Kathy Sajowitz on 0419 231 525.
Entry forms are to be returned by May 29 in time for the exhibition to be held from Wednesday, June 7 to Saturday, June 10 at St Joseph's School Hall.
