We played the final round of the Jack Robinson Memorial Shield fourball Par Championship on Saturday. Despite the Oberon Show attracting a good crowd, we had a strong field competing.
A strong contingent of the Robinson clan gathered to remember Jack and present the shield to the winners.
Competition was keen, especially as a couple of the leaders from the previous week were not in the field. Alan Cairney and Robbie Armstrong had a marvellous round of +11 to win this week’s competition.
Eric Whalan and Dennis O'Connell were runners-up on +10. Balls went to Lenore Zamparini, Wayne Ortlip, Bob Slattery, Brian Balaam, Neil Whalan, Roger Arrow, Scott Rowlandson and Robert Hayden.
Nearest the pin on the first went to Dennis O'Connell, Bob Slattery took the seventh, Barry Lang was closest on the ninth and Wayne Ortlip was closest on the 17th.
Winners of the Jack Robinson Shield and the 2017 fourball Par Champions were Denis O'Connell and Eric Whalan. They put together two good rounds of +7 and +10 for a winning total of +17. Runners-up were Scott Rowlandson and Robert Hayden with +15.
This week Oberon hosted the Masters pennants teams from the Blue Mountains District and had a bye. The visiting teams were very complimentary of our course and especially the greens. Our Senior pennants team travelled to Lithgow and had a win, Rob McGrath, Kyall Ryan and John McKinnon all winning their matches.
Golf next Saturday will be an 18-hole stableford event.
