The body of Queensland man Ricky Ciano was discovered in a white BMW on Duckmaloi Road, 15 kilometres from Oberon, around 7.45pm.
Mr Ciano, a former enforcer in the Rebels Sydney chapter, was reportedly unresponsive when discovered in the vehicle. He was confirmed deceased by paramedics when emergency services arrived.
A post mortem examination to determine how Mr Ciano died has proven inconclusive and police are waiting on further results to assist their inquiries.
The NSW Police State Crime Command’s homicide squad has formed Strike Force Kiaka to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Ciano’s death.
Detectives are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was travelling between Penrith and Oberon and may have seen Mr Ciano's vehicle – the white 2015-model BMW M3 sedan.
Mr Ciano had been reported missing on Monday night, when he could not be reached by family trying to contact him while he was visiting Sydney.
The last known contact between Mr Ciano and his family was around 8.20pm on Saturday, February 11, when he told his wife he was in Penrith.
Police investigating his disappearance have confirmed he was in the Penrith area on Saturday, as he was pulled over by officers for a traffic matter.
Investigations have led police to believe the white BMW Mr Ciano’s body was found in was dumped in the Duckmaloi area late in the afternoon on Sunday.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the online reporting page.
