"It has been more prevalent that some firearm owners are not renewing their firearms licences before the expiry date,” she said.
"All firearms in your possession must be registered with the Firearms Registry. Failing to do so will result in confiscation of the firearms by police and hefty fines.
"All the information you need to know relating to firearms can be found on the Firearms Registry website www.police.nsw.gov.au/firearms or call 1300 362 562.
"All firearms must be stored in safe storage facilities which comply with the category of firearms in your possession and ammunition must be stored separately.”
Senior Constable Rose said if your licence expires before the renewal is received, you must hand your firearms in to a licensed firearms dealer or the police.
"If your firearm is lost or stolen, you must immediately report it to the NSW Police and notify the Firearms Registry within seven days."
