READING the Monday, November 14 edition of the Western Advocate, it is clear that not even after a jolly good thrashing on Saturday have the Nationals learnt a lesson.

A senior Nationals MP, Kevin Humphries, branded the party’s poor showing in the Orange by-election a “wake-up call” for Mr Grant.
He, along with all the other Nationals, should take it as a wake-up call.
Failure to so will mean in 2019 the Nationals may very well vanish and never be seen again.
Mr Humphries is also quoted as saying the result was not about a single issue such as the decision to shut down the greyhound industry [later reversed] or council amalgamations in the area.
How very wrong Mr Humphries is.
This is exactly why the Nationals are facing defeat, they do not listen to the communities they are setting about to destroy.
Their arrogance and failure to listen is why we, the people, will make sure at the next election they are shown in the only way left for us and that is, not to vote for them.
I keep hearing from many people “they have brought this on themselves” and that is so true.
Many of us were traditional National voters, however when you cannot get your local member to listen or speak with the community, then in the end, people are left with no other option.
The Amalgamation – No Thank You (ANTY) group from Cabonne worked very hard to ensure the Nationals would be either defeated or lose a large percentage of their traditional vote in the area.
The Orange area has been a safe National seat for around 70 years.
Some Oberon people, along with people from many areas in Sydney and Gundagai, went along to assist the ANTY group last Saturday.
What an experience to hear most of those handing out how to votes shouting out “put the Nationals last, that is where they put you”.
This is so true.
The by-election last Saturday has shown what people power can do.
Wake up Nationals, try to find the bread crumb trail back to your roots and change.
The people have spoken loudly and clearly.
To our local member Mr Paul Toole (Nationals), take heed – we mean to have our democracy.
We expect to be listened to and consulted properly, treated fairly and given the respect we have earned.
I will finish with the message from Mr Grant Leader of the Nationals
“The message for Macquarie Street is clear: Government is there to support communities and, otherwise, should get out of people’s lives.”
