This follows 18,000 brown trout fry being released into district creeks as part of the annual fish restocking program.
Paul Sheather, from the NSW Department of Primary Industries’ Dutton Trout Hatchery at Ebor, who carried out the operation, said the shipment had travelled very well, arrived in very good condition and had no casualties.
Peter Byrom, treasurer of the Oberon branch of the Central Acclimatisation Society, said the amount of water in the district's waterways promised a good start to the new fishing season, but added a cautionary note.
"Things can dry up surprisingly quickly, and you never know how things will turn out,” he said.
“The quality of the stock has been exceptional, yet no catches are being recorded.
“It is almost certain that the culprit is the predatory redfin.
“With the dam at full capacity, let’s hope the trout fingerlings have a chance.”
