No doubt the big news around town is the decision handed down by Chief Justice Preston to reject the challenge launched by Oberon, Cabonne and Gundagai councils against their respective forced mergers.
Not only did he reject the challenge, he also ordered the councils to pay the NSW Government's costs incurred.
No wonder Paul Toole's photo in last week's Oberon Review shows a grin from ear to ear - obviously winners are grinners.
Mind you, there are a few more winners associated with this merger rejection decision.
KPMG and the NSW Government's legal team will also be pretty financially happy. Perhaps we could get their photos in next week's issue and compare the smiles.
So where to now, some may ask?
To say that Oberon Council could win an appeal against the rejection decision is a bit like saying George Rose will be playing for Oberon Tigers next season and Parramatta will win the NRL premiership in 2017.
Miracles do happen.
In the meantime, we had better get used to our new identity name - south east Bat-Hurst.
And now for some local gossip. Young Geoff Lawson made his return to harness racing driving last week after a short retirement.
His horse Don't Tell Errol must be pretty fit and strong to run fourth.
Not only did it beat six horses home, but it also pulled Geoff right to the finish line.
There were more beauties at the Royal Hotel last Saturday than at any of Donald Trump's beauty pageants.
Yes, young Amy Cleton had her hen's party (whatever that is) at the venue.
Rumour has it that some of the elderly male patrons are hoping she has a hen's party there every Saturday.
Now we all know it's been a bit wet in and around town over the past few months, so it will come as no real surprise that a lot of people took advantage of the fine weekend to get into their lawn mowing.
While most residents managed to achieve their objective and successfully mow their lawns, young “name's Bond”, Wally Bond, wasn't so lucky.
His front yard was still a little damp underfoot. As a matter of fact, he managed to bog his brand new zero-turn ride-on mower.
Luckily his wife was home and got his toy out of the mud.
Oberon's population also increased by one last week.
Young Sam and Andrew Galliotas welcomed the arrival of their second son. I can't tell you his name as there is not enough room in this article to print.
Apparently Greek tradition applies to names and the Greek alphabet has more letters than English.
We'll attempt to translate it over in the next few weeks.
See ya later.
