Council will contact Forestry Corporation NSW for its assistance as its environmental impact statement should have identified the danger of removing the pine forest and exposing wind-protected trees.
Acting general manager Gary Wallace said council will be asking Forestry Corporation NSW for a plan of how it is going to manage this into the future.
"When they clear fell blocks we have to clean up afterwards with a substantial cost to council," Mr Wallace said.
"Forestry must have a protocol as to how to deal with this problem."
Cr Ian Doney said Forestry Corporation NSW has to change its practice and should consider planting a considerable buffer zone to protect roadside vegetation.
DA DEFERRED
A DEVELOPMENT application has been received by Oberon Council for the construction of a dwelling at 92 Ferndale Road, Oberon.
The two-bedroom dwelling is proposed to be located on an existing excavated site within 350 metres of an existing approved quarry site.
An existing consent development application for the proposed dwelling was approved by council in December 2011 - in the same location. This consent will be withdrawn prior to the issue of any further approval.
The applicant has proposed additional noise attenuation measures through double glazing and added insulation to provide sufficient acoustic attenuation within the proposed dwelling.
A submitted statement of environmental effects has identified that a ridge between the proposed dwelling site and the quarry provides a significant barrier which would provide shielding to the proposed dwelling from noise impacts associated to the quarry.
Cr McCarthy said he is against the development whether there is a site inspection or not as a dwelling should not be allowed to be built in a buffer zone. Any decision on the development application will be deferred pending a site inspection.
