A moderate field played the 12-hole Thursday competition and some handy scores were recorded. Doug Collins, showing the benefit of regular golf, was too strong for the rest of the field and won the day. Balls went to Barry Stubbs and Peter Ryan.
Saturday was a busy day for the starter with a couple of groups of visitors enjoying the sun and course.
Members played a stableford event and while the conditions were good, the scoring was not so good.
A grade was won by Billy Gascoigne with an excellent round of 38 points. Billy hasn't played for a few months, but hasn't forgotten how to score well. The runner-up was Roger Arrow with a handy 34 points.
The B grade golfers struggled with the conditions and the winning score was Wayne Ortlip’s 33 points. Doug Collins was the runner-up with 31 points on a countback.
Nearest the pin on the first was Adrian Poulten, Barry Stubbs claimed the seventh, Robert McGrath won the ninth and Daren Gordon was closest on the 17th.
Balls went to Barry Lang, Daren Gordon, Adrian Poulten, Rob McGrath and Tim Crichton.
Golf next Saturday will be an 18-hole stroke event, playing for the monthly medal and a putting competition.
Don't forget, on the first Friday on the month, to come and enjoy a lovely meal and pleasant company in the comfort of the club house.
The veterans from Bathurst joined the Oberon Vets for golf on Monday. A good field of golfers enjoyed a brisk Oberon morning. Billy Lambert from Bathurst won A grade and Dennis O'Connell was too strong for the visitors in B grade.
Golfers wishing to practice are reminded of the new practice areas on the course: one area for your pitching and short irons and the other area for your longer irons and woods.
Remember to use your sand buckets to repair divots, replace your strips of bacon and repair pitch marks on the greens.
