The weather was fabulous and Oberon Public had a wonderful day, with all students displaying excellent school spirit and sportsmanship.
There were some fantastic results during the day, with many students achieving personal best times and distances. Many students made it through to the finals for the 100m and 200m events, including our senior boys relay team.
Many students achieved excellent results: Brodie Fenton was second in the 11 years boys 100m and Micah Leihn was second in the 11 years girls long jump.
Congratulations to Micah and Brodie, who have been selected as part of the Bathurst District Athletics Team and will now compete at the Western Area Carnival in Dubbo in September. We wish them the best of luck.
A big thank you to the parents who came along, supported the children and assisted with transport. A big thank you also to Raeleine Eiler and Emma Clayton who acted as our parent assistants on the day. Your support is greatly appreciated.
BOOKS IN SCHOOL
THE Books in School Project, run by Western Sydney University, aims to increase participation in higher education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Earlier this year, as part of this project, a taster day was held in Lithgow for Aboriginal students in Years 5 and 6 from Oberon Public School.
These students took a buddy with them to participate in literacy, art and science workshops in Lithgow. The project aims to increase literacy levels and open up the world of books. All students in Years 3-6 were presented with a book at a special book-giving assembly.
Each participating school also receives a resource pack consisting of books and resources for teaching Indigenous studies.
