No doubt the big news around town revolves around the state government's decision to ban greyhound racing in NSW from July 1, 2017 under the cruelty to animals agenda.
Many readers are concerned about the impact this ban will have on local ratepayers and our thriving tourism industry.
Hopefully the results of our survey conducted over the weekend will highlight what we call "the ripple effect" of such action on other activities that could also be banned in NSW due to cruelty concerns.
I must confirm that KPMG had no participation in this survey - only local identities were involved in the collection of data. These are only preliminary assumptions of "the ripple effect".
* Pigging industry - just about every second fella in Oberon has a pig dog or knows someone who has a pig dog. Of course, young Ashley Reynolds has confirmed this could be the last year they will be able to take their dogs out to chase pigs in NSW, thus avoiding cruelty to the pigs.
* Sheep dog trials - young Jack Fitzpatrick predicts that all sheep dogs will be banned in NSW as they cause too much stress to the dogs while competing at the top level and also cause stress to the sheep.
* Cattle dogs - young Jim Duggan also confirms that he will retire his dogs due to the stress inflicted on cattle throughout NSW.
* Fishing industry - young David Stocks is really worried about the ripple effect on local fishermen in and around NSW. Apparently fishermen will be no longer be allowed to use hooks to catch fish.
* Meat industry - young Wayne Barker says the ripple effect of cruelty to animals is really going to have an impact in NSW if sheep, cattle, pigs, chooks and turkeys are not allowed to be slaughtered in NSW.
Late mail, just in: our horse racing expert young Wayne Barker is looking into what happens if horse racing is banned in NSW from July 1, 2017. The report will be available next week once we obtain an update from KPMG.
