The Safer Streets Programme is part of the Federal Government’s $50 million commitment to “deliver effective solutions to areas experiencing problems with criminal and anti-social behaviour”.
Once funding agreements have been finalised, a meeting will be organised between council and key project stakeholders, including police and the business community, to finalise the location of the new camera network.
DEBTOR WRITE OFF
IN a closed session of council, a motion was moved to approve and write off a debt of $2058.80 in accordance to policy 2201.
This motion was moved and lost. A motion was moved by Cr Clive McCarthy, and carried, that council retain the debt in itemised form and continue to monitor the land ownership and seek opportunities to recover the debt.
LEGAL CHALLENGE
AN update was provided to councillors at council's extraordinary meeting on June 30 regarding the legal action being undertaken in relation to the NSW Government's proposal for a forced merger of Bathurst Regional Council and Oberon Council.
A motion was moved and carried that council allocate an additional $15,000 for legal expenses.
Council resolved that the expenditure is required and warranted in accordance with the guidelines under section 23a of the Local Government Act 1993 to enable the legitimate exercise of legal rights of review or appeal.

COUNCILLOR Neil Francis and Cr John Morgan attended the Upper Macquarie County Council meeting held on June 17, 2016.
The committee was advised that due to a greater emphasis placed on safety, compliance and training, there was a decrease in property inspections.
It was advised that the chief weeds officer, who is a senior inspector, has opted to retire in July.
