The Thursday afternoon golfers had a small but keen field. Joe Casey showed the benefits of a break and was too good for the rest.
Brian Beesley hit a bit of form to win a ball and show that he is not just a poet.
This week the Thursday crew was a bit stronger in numbers and Alan Cairney had a good 12 holes to win. Balls went to Doug Collins, Barry Stubbs and Bill Wilcox.
A reasonably good field played an 18-hole stableford event on Saturday. The course was playing well and despite the long run of cold, wet weather, the greens and fairways are in very good order.
A grade was won by Mick English on a three-way countback. Mick had a very good back nine to win on 36 points. It was probably Mick's most expensive win for a long time - he was breaking his new set of Ping clubs. Runner-up was Brian Roberts with 36 points.
B grade was won by John Crichton with a solid round of 37 points. Bill Edwards has hit some good form and followed up his good score of the previous week with a solid 34 points to be runner-up.
Nearest the pin on the first was Neil Whalan at 4.7 metres, on the seventh and ninth was Saxon Lyne and Eric Whalan was just 2.1m from the 17th. Balls went to Jack English, Tim Crichton and Barry Stubbs.
Golf next week will be a stableford event.
Players are reminded to always take sand with them and fill in their divots. The ground is soft and it is easy to make large divots. Be careful where you drive in carts, as it is very slippery.
