Oberon picked up two tries in the first 20 minutes, but Panthers clawed their way back to take an 18-12 lead at half-time.
Both sides were reduced to 12 men when Panthers’ Kyle Byrnes and Tigers’ Zac Maher were sent from the field for their role in an on-field brawl.
“Our biggest problem is that we’ve got roped into all the hype about us being the number one side, then as soon as something doesn’t go our way we just get a bit frustrated,” Oberon player-coach Zac Rowlandson said.
“We get impatient and we start to overplay things with low percentage stuff trying to get back to where we think we should be and it’s hurting us.”
Rowlandson will be looking forward to the return of absent players such as Abel Lefaoseu, Luke Christie Johnson and Matt Ballinger over the coming weeks.
“We’re still not full strength and when we get there we’re going to be a lot better off,” he said.
“We just need to get a bit of a rhythm going again and we should be alright.”
A hat-trick for winger Tyler Hughes was a highlight for the Tigers on an otherwise disappointing day.
Women’s tag were defeated 50-0, under 18s lost 22-12 and first division lost 28-20.
Oberon travel to Mudgee this weekend.
