Indicator markets from previous sales at Central Tablelands Livestock Exchange, Forbes and Dubbo have often influenced decisions to market stock.
The new regional saleyards at Yass is almost ready to commence business and that facility will have some effect on the busy yards at Carcoar.
To the rescue
REPORTS of bogged vehicles left in paddocks tell us of wet conditions that have not been experienced for some years.
When a rescue vehicle arrives to help, with a quaintly named snatch strap, please do not attach the strap to a tow ball on either vehicle.
If a tow ball snaps under extreme pressure, the cannonball effect can be fatal for the person in the bogged vehicle.
By the numbers
BEFORE leaving the muddy conditions, I have received some rainfall totals for June.
A farmer at Nashdale measured 302 millimetres, there were totals of 100mm in the Bathurst basin, and 265mm was recorded by the Minister for Rain Gauges at Hobbys Yards.
Footrot stats
THE 2015 virulent footrot report from the Department of Primary Industries lists a summary:
In August 2009 the prevalence of virulent footrot was reduced to 1pc of flocks.
In December 2015, the NSW prevalence is reported at 0.27pc.
In December 2015, the Central Tablelands prevalence is reported at 0.18pc.
“Our district vets and biosecurity staff continue to support landholders to manage the disease with ongoing surveillance, response activities and eradication programs and advice where footrot is detected,” Central Tablelands manager of biosecurity Clare Hamilton says.
Helping Hayley
FRIDAY, July 8 brings “A helping hand for Hayley” at the Bridge Hotel, Perthville.
Proceeds from all meals will be donated to the fund to assist Hayley Porter - who was badly hurt when she fell from her horse during an equestrian event at St Stanislaus’ College in March – and her family.
This is a night to dine at the hotel, bring the kids and enjoy the company of Kingston Town’s famous jockey, Malcolm Johnston.
There will be lots of sports memorabilia, food and wine packs and holidays for auction, so this is the opportunity to get behind Hayley and her family as she improves a little bit more every day.
More information from Trace: 6337 7581 or 0459 454 147.
Mudgee bound
DISTRICT residents usually make an effort to attend the Mudgee Field Days and this year’s event will be held on Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16.
Watson Tractors from Vale Road, Bathurst will again present a great display of agricultural machinery and their stand is always a practical place to check the products on sale.
While you’re there, don’t forget to congratulate Millie and Dave Watson and their staff as they celebrate 34 years of service to our district’s farming community.
The recent death of respected Bathurstian Don Anderson was sadly noted by his family’s many friends. He is remembered as a handy sportsman and a valued member of the wine producing industry. Don, his wife Ruth and family members, created their vineyard at Caloola through years of hard work and their product label is now at the forefront of cool country wines.
Bathurst’s motoring public have rolled out the welcome mat to the new owners at Bathurst Mazda and there seems to be a lot of brand new Mazda vehicles on our local streets and roads. After many years of buying vehicles from Rosconi Mazda many motorists have come to value the quality and reliability of the Japanese sourced Mazda range and they will probably continue to drive SUVs and cars and light trucks that are created from designs at the Hiroshima factory. I’m sure that lots of farmers and motorists join me in welcoming Cassandra and her team to Bathurst.
Please support the BMA Annual General Meeting at the Bridge Hotel Perthville on Monday night 11th July at 7.30 pm sharp. All positions will be declared vacant, and new ideas and committee members will be warmly welcomed. See you there.
They say PM Malcolm talked to Bob Menzies in a dream and asked “What should I do to assist our country?” Bob advised looking after Japan and its steel industry. He then dreamed of talking to John Howard who advised “being honest and straight forward with voters”.. Finally a dream of asking the question to former PM Harold Holt, and was told “do as I did son, and go for a good swim”
George bought a robot lie detector that slapped the user if they lied. He asked 14 year old son what he did on Saturday afternoon and was told “I watched a movie called Black Beauty”, and the robot slapped him. Dad said “you were watching blue movies; I never heard of blue movies when I was 14”and the robot slapped dad. Mum chuckled and said “he’s his father’s son alright”and the robot slapped mum. The robot lie detector is now for sale on Ebay..
