Mr Bird, of Ray White Emms Mooney in Oberon, said most out of town inquiries were from Sydney and Blue Mountains investors, although the local market for people upsizing or downsizing is also strong.
“We can list a residential property one week and it’s sold the next. For investors we generally only have three to four rentals available any week,” he said..
“Oberon’s employment opportunities now, and into the future, are driving investors to Oberon as it is the closest rural town to the metropolitan area this side of the Blue Mountains.
“We have had a 100 per cent success rate on rural properties going to auction with multiple buyers.
“Sydney investors see agriculture as a good investment and locals are upsizing their investments because of good cattle prices.
“Oberon is a true country town with small rural town atmosphere, visitors always comment of the friendly atmosphere associated with Oberon.”
Mr Bird said the market has been strong since Christmas. “With the steam fair, Oberon Show, Oberon Rodeo and car clubs, there has been something on every weekend, drawing visitors to Oberon,” he said.
Mr Bird said Mayfield Garden and Jenolan Caves had really put Oberon on the map. “Tourism is becoming one of the major industries and it can only help the town grow,” he said.
