A good field turned out to play the Thursday afternoon 12 hole competition. Anybody interested in trying their luck at golf should try the Thursday event.
It is a very relaxed afternoon, the handicapper is generous and you will be sure to get a ride with some of the regulars. There were 16 players this week and Brian Beesley proved to good for the rest of the field.
Balls went to Doug Collins, Don Miller, Peter Dale and Joe Casey.
On Saturday members played an 18 hole stableford event. Even though the course was set up short, most struggled to play to their handicap.
I am sure that the majority of our members will need to do a bit of home- work on their putting and chipping skills, with the greens and surrounds in such good condition.
We had one of the strongest fields so far in the autumn, 45 golfers participated on a very pleasant day. Visitor Graham Williams was too strong for the rest of the A graders and won the event with a handy score of 37 points.
Thomas McKinnon was the runner up on a count back with 37 points. Dennis O’Connell was the winner in B grade with 35 points, while Don Miller was the runner up with 32 points. Neither of these golfers would have expected to win with these scores, but the going was tough.
Nearest the pin on the 1st and 9th went to Gerard Hogan 2.8 metres and 8.3 metres respectively.
Eric Whalan was closest on the 7th at 5.5 metres and Brian Roberts took the 17th with a good shot to be just 3.17 metres from the pin.
On Anzac Day we played a stableford event for the Diggers Cup, with trophies kindly donated by the RSL Sub Branch.
Bill Wilcox and Neville Stapleton were on hand to present the trophies.
Dennis O’Connell was the winner of the Diggers Cup and won B grade with a good round of 39 points, Don Miller was the runner up in B grade.
Alan Cairney has hit a bit of good form and had 37 points to win A grade, while the runner up was Barry Lang.
Nearest the pin on the first went to Neil Whalan. Balls for ability went to Laurie Murphy, Scott Rowlandson, Robert Hayden, Chris Lord, Brian Beesley, Roger Arrow, Brian Roberts and Gerard Hogan.
Golf next Saturday will be an 18 hole stableford event.
Remember to observe the blue line around the greens and please repair pitch marks on the greens and divots in the fairways. It is a courtesy to all your fellow golfers.
There are always a few jobs that need to be done around the course, if you have time your help would be appreciated, see Gerard and he will give you directions.
