Jason Ferris left the field injured 10 minutes into the game and this put Oberon on the back foot.
Oberon regathered and defended their line from the ongoing attack from Workies.
Jackson Brien and Blake Miller scored for the Oberon Tigers in the first half and Oberon led 10-nil at the break.
Defence was fierce from both teams in the second half, with plenty of opportunities for both teams to score.
With 10 minutes to go, Oberon’s attack was too much for Workies and they went on to score 18 points.
Riccie Arriola got a double in the second half, with Abel Lefaoseu crossing and his brother Senio Lefaoseu also crossing with his first touch of the ball.
Captain-coach Zac Rowlandson said he was not really happy with the way Oberon played.
“We were caught off-guard when Jason Ferris left the field with ligament tears, but we did not stick to our game plan,” he said.
“We let Workies control the game.
“Oberon showed poor discipline and did not complete their sets.
“There were a lot of penalties in the game which slowed the game down.
“In saying that, I’m still happy we came away with the points.”
Rowlandson said this week they will regather and stick to their game plan against Cowra, who always field a strong side.
Final score: Oberon 28-Workies nil.
Oberon are at home again this Sunday against Cowra. League tag will kick off at 10.30am, under 18s at 11.30am, first division at 12.45pm and the main game at 2.30pm.
