Competitors came from all over the state to put their skills to test against local cattle, which were in perfect condition.
A big thank you must go to our cattle donors – Ceres, Marcus Hadley and Phil and Dawn Webb.
Saturday morning’s wonderful weather saw competition kick off with the Kelly Hoolihan Memorial Encouragement draft, which was taken out by Jess Britton on High Flyer.
Jess took home a beautiful hand-crafted bridle made by Quentin Stapleton of QRS Equine. Jess’s will be the first name on Kelly’s memorial plaque.
Our young local riders showed us how it was done, with Kira-Lee Thomas riding DJ the winner of the Junior Draft. Dan Kable of Rydal came 2nd on Mary Poppins. Kira-Lee also took out 3rd place on Impress, Holly Fitzpatrick came 4th in her first draft on Bob and Felicity Sharpe came in 5th riding Lucy.
Tash Stanbridge from Bathurst, riding Salty Banks, took out the hotly contested ladies draft and Tash also showed her top form by winning the Robert Campbell Memorial Novice Draft on Hook Me Up. Tash also received a hand-crafted bridle and her name on the Memorial Plaque.
Cowra native Glen Peterson was also in top form winning the Keith Evans Memorial Open draft aboard Memphis and the maiden draft on Savannah.
Our Juvenile event was taken out by local Emily Thomas riding Brett Rowlandson’s Pretty. Tom Kable riding Ivory was 2nd, Teagan Miller from Bathurst took out 3rd, Laura Sharpe on Lucy 4th and Luke Cheney riding Lacoda was 5th.
Our judges, Paul Lunny and Sam Mooney, did an excellent job.
