Police briefs
- Two assaults at Oberon Correctional Centre are now under investigation by police. The two separate assaults, which occurred on Friday, November 13, involved the same three offenders. Police said charges are pending.
- A man was airlifted to hospital following a rural accident on a property at Arkstone on November 18. Police report that a farm utility rolled backwards knocking the man down a hill and he was left with a spinal injury. Paramedics were called and the man was stabilised. He was then transported by air ambulance to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney.
- A dog attack left a 45-year-old woman with injuries on Wednesday, November 4 and she was taken to Oberon Hospital. Oberon Police were called to the Tasman Street property following reports a woman was being attacked by her dogs. A beagle was located at the scene with severe injuries and was taken to Oberon Vet, however the animal did not survive surgery. A police investigation was then conducted into the welfare of the animals and their owner. The day after the attack police, with the assistance of an RSPCA insector and Oberon Council ranger, attended the location where the offending dog was surrendered by the owner. Police, council and RSPCA are working with the owner to arrange for re-homing of a number of dogs from the location.
- A 59-year-old woman was hospitalised following a single vehicle accident on Friday, November 6. Police were called to the accident scene on Abercrombie Road at Paling Yards and said the woman was taken by ambulance to Bathurst Hospital with minor head injuries.
- An offer to patrol vacant rural properties while owners are away has been extended by Oberon Police to help deter rural thefts. Police said there has been a recent spate of break and enters at vacant properties which resulted in many stolen items including chainsaws, tools, whipper snippers and lawnmowers. Oberon Police have asked rural property owners to contact them prior to going away so patrols can be conducted.
- Monday, November 23: Police received reports of break and enters at the Oberon Golf Club and the Shell Service Station, Oberon. CCTV footage has been seized from both locations and is currently being viewed for possible suspects.
- Over the weekend of Friday, November 20 to Sunday, November 22: Two flags were stolen from outside the Oberon Hospital. Anyone with information is asked to contact Oberon Police on 6336 1000.
- Also over the weekend: A rural property on Old Shooters Hill Road, Oberon was broken into and a number of items stolen including a 3/4 inch socket set from tool box, hydraulic gear puller set, a Felwin Mig welder and a gas bottle. Police have forensically investigated the location and are awaiting the results of fingerprints and DNA.
- Police have received numerous reports of thefts of fuel from rural properties around Oberon. Police have now asked the community to notify them of any suspicious vehicles or people in the area. Residents have been advised a security assessment should be undertaken on their property and police are able to assist. Police have also recommend the installation of remote access security cameras.
- Tuesday, November 17: Police were called to the Oberon Showground following a report of malicious damage to a building near the pavilion. Members of the Oberon Show Society are now considering the installation of remote access security cameras to prevent further incidents.
- Friday, November 13: A guitar reported stolen three years ago has been recovered by Oberon Police. The Fender guitar was seized and the person who handed over the item made a statement to police. The matter is now under investigation and a potential suspect has been identified.
- Sunday, November 22: A red children’s bicycle was found on the walking track at Lowes Mount Road, Oberon. Contact Oberon Police on 6336 1000 if this is your bike.
