Throughout the night trucks and floats roll up, horses are unloaded often in the darkness, and the daylight reveals hundreds of horses being saddled and groomed, sniffing the fresh air in anticipation.
Polocrosse is a unique Australian horse sport for the whole family.
It is a horse event where you have men, women, children, accomplished representative competitors and those who have just begun on their polocrosse sporting adventure all competing at the same event, on the same grounds, sometimes even side by side.
Few sports can claim such a rich dynamic. And this weekend, August 29 and 30, a carnival will be played locally..
The Oberon Polocrosse Club, a club which has endured and evolved throughout the years, combine for the first time with the Raglan club to host a carnival at the Bathurst Showground.
The event will see teams and players come from across NSW in all grades as well as mixed (men and women), and juniors and sub juniors (under 12 years).
The games begin on Saturday with matches spread over the two days, with all skill levels on all fields at any time.
All polocrosse lovers are invited to come and enjoy the weekend, as well as anyone who has never before seen polocrosse and would like to enjoy the spectacle.
Spectating is free and the entertainment is non-stop.
Whether you love seeing kids riding around learning the game and being rewarded for good sportsmanship, or prefer the action-packed, adrenalin rush of experienced horse people and horses challenging themselves on every ball, along with the thunder of hooves and cheers.
The carnival has it all.
Weather permitting, the action starts at 8.30am on Saturday and Sunday at the Bathurst Showground with free admission for spectators and full canteen available all weekend.
