League tag
The league tag side came up against an opponent who had recently scalped premiership contenders St Pat’s.
Down on troops, the girls put in a gutsy performance and were unfortunately edged out 18-0.
Players’ player went to recent newcomer Ebony Oneill.
Under 18s
Lack of depth on the bench before the game started would give headaches to most coaches, however, guidance from young coach Wayne Sellers gave the Cubs the spark they needed.
In what was arguably their best first half display this season you could have thought they were set for something special, however, player burnout proved their downfall and they were unable to keep up the pressure to take out this game.
Reserve grade
Rookie coach Dallas Booth ensured his troops were aware of the type of footy required and the necessity of a win so they could begin their finals campaign.
They were off to a slow start, but the outside backs took control of the game and the team took out the game 36-18.
The reserve grade team have now guaranteed themselves a place in the finals and we hope all of Oberon will be there to support.
Players’ player was the ever reliable Brenton Gibson.
Premier league
The reports were that this game against a strong Blayney outfit was about as physical as they came.
With consistency required, the Tigers were unable to string back-to-back sets together and provided cheap possession to the opposition which would turn out to be their Achilles’ heel.
That being said, out of the 17 players named, nine backed up from previous grades.
Their performances were spirited and they never gave up. Unfortunately, with some of these players being asked to play two full games, they were unable to match it with the Bears and went down 66-14.
