THERE was not a lot of men’s golf this week. The July weather has interrupted the natural low of things.

There was no Thursday golf, but a good field turned up to play on a windy, cold Saturday. Most of the players struggled with the conditions: cold, windy and no run in the course.
Despite the number of snow falls we have had in the last little while, the course has stood up very well.
The winner in A grade was Adrian Poulten with a very good round of 37 points.
In fact, Adrian was the only A grader to play to his handicap.
The runner-up was John McKinnon, fresh back from his trip to the US.
John Crichton was out to show all the young fellows just how to handle the wind and cold. John won B grade with a fine round of 36 points. Wayne Seller was the runner-up.
Nearest the pin on the first went to Dick O’Donnell at just over two metres, and Scott Rowlandson was closest on the seventh at 2.8 metres.
Sean Mooney took the ninth at 7.3 metres (you could hardly call that close) and Dennis O’Connell claimed the 17th at 1.5 metres.
Balls went to Bill Edwards, Keith Prendergast and Graham Hotham. We had our annual presentation night and Christmas in July last Friday night.
The golf club ladies did a fine job of catering. It was a lovely meal.
Golf next Saturday will be a stroke round.Members will play for the monthly medal and it is a count your putts day as well.
The course won’t be set long, so come and enjoy your stroke round.
Each Tuesday morning there is a small group of volunteers that do various jobs around the course.
If you would like to join them, just turn up at the workshop.
I am reliably informed that one of our very consistent members, Barry Stubbs, celebrated an important birthday at the end of last week. Congratulations Barry, we all look forward to playing to your standard at the same age.
