The meeting will be held at the Robert Hooper Community Centre on Fleming Street at 11am.
Change within the Western NSW Local Health District mean that the service, which has been operating in Oberon for 40 years, will now be serviced by Bathurst Meals on Wheels from August 1.
Bathurst Meals on Wheels is supported by the Australian Government Department of Social Services, under the Commonwealth Home Support Program, and is a not-for-profit, community-based organisation located at Bathurst.
Bathurst Meals on Wheels will provide Oberon’s 26 clients with a variety of frozen meals which will be delivered once-a-week – clients will no longer receive a freshly cooked hot meal that are currently delivered daily.
Oberon Health Service coordinator for Meals on Wheels, Marie Fitzpatrick, said they will hold a public meeting for clients, relatives, volunteer drivers and community members to discuss the changes to the Oberon’s Meals on Wheels service.
Bathurst Meals on Wheels manager Lynda Roszkiewicz said they will be at the meeting to answer any questions and talk to clients and volunteer drivers.
She added that their intentions are to maintain client’s requirements and keep the service Oberon-orientated.
The late Oberon Council mayor John McMahon, who died last week, was passionate about keeping the service based in Oberon.
In the days before his death Cr McMahon said he was disgusted by the proposed changes because the service not only provides a hot meal, but also daily human contact with volunteers who deliver meals.
All interested members of the Oberon community are encouraged to attend the meeting to have their say on the proposed changes.
