ALBION Street was closed off for much of last Wednesday and Thursday as large machines wandered up and down, munching up the roadway.

At last, Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway (OTHR) members can congratulate Oberon Council for reinstating the rail level crossing so the railway restoration project can move one step closer to operating heritage tourist trains on the route out to Hazelgrove.
You could say it’s “one small step for Oberon Council, one giant leap for OTHR”.
The next task will be the level crossing on Lowes Mount Road, which will be a bigger job entirely. Plans are in preparation for this work to be undertaken in the not-too-distant future.
In the meantime, OTHR is pressing ahead with the work in the Oberon Station yard to complete the lines into the rolling stock shed and have them certified fit for use. This should happen within the next month or two.
It’s been a long, hard grind by OTHR’s volunteer fettlers, who have waited a considerable time to see the level crossing reinstalled as one of the last few pieces of infrastructure needed to achieve a completed line out to Hazelgrove.
One more crossing to go and OTHR will have almost achieved our first goal of stage one completion – a fitting milestone in 2015 for our 10th birthday.
