So far this April a total of 2206 people have visited the Oberon Visitor Information Centre to enquire about local attractions, including mushrooming, fossicking, Jenolan Caves, Mayfield Garden and camping.

Accommodation was at full capacity with most hotels, motels, B and Bs and other accommodation full to the brim with visitors. 

Most businesses, eateries and coffee houses enjoyed many customers.

Deb Marks from the centre said although there had a been slow start to the mushroom season due to the very long hot dry spell, there had been over 400 phone calls enquiring about the mushroom picking in the Oberon region. 

“Although it was a slow start there appears to be lots more mushrooms popping up now after some heavy downpours of rain since Good Friday, so we are expecting more mushroomers over the coming weeks,” she said. “The phone has been running hot.”

During March, 1770 people visited the VIC seeking information about mushrooming, Jenolan Caves, roads and directions, fossicking and Mayfield Garden.

Sally and Bob Parrington from Jenolan Caravan Park said they have had a constant stream of visitors to their park during the Easter and school holidays breaks.

Sally said they have had large groups such as a Probus Club Group and Tuggarah Lakes Caravan Club.

“They were specifically here to see Mayfield Garden, Jenolan Caves, fossicking, mushrooming and generally sight-seeing,” she said.

“We have been really busy, we’ve been at full capacity for the last few weeks.”

Jenolan Caravan Park has no long-term residents and caters only for visitors.

Sally and Bob are heading into their fourth year at the park. They say their visitors always comment on the facilities at the park.

Since taking over the park Bob and Sally have installed four extra deluxe two-bedroom cabins at the park.

Bob said one client told them she has travelled the world and she has never stayed in a more comfortable, well fitted cabin before.
