Ms Torner was recognised for her huge contribution during the International Women’s Day celebrations at the tiny St Aidan’s Church at Black Springs.
Local artist Lyndall Precians made a presentation on behalf of the congregation to Ms Torner, who was Citizen of the Year for Oberon in 2014 and has just retired after more than 40 years’ service in the Oberon Parish.
The church presented Ms Torner with antique vases in gratitude for her many kindnesses in recent years to St Aidan’s.
During the celebrations, the congregation heard about the pastoral calling of Dimity Milne, a leader at the Christian Life Centre, who is also chaplain at the Oberon Hospital.
Anne Russell, well known for her work with local writers and a celebrated singer who leads the music at St Aidan’s, talked about about the significance of the day and read one of her poems.
