Police and rescue workers were called to the crash just after 8.30am, following reports a car had crashed into a tree on Shooters Hill Road, 32km from Oberon.
When they arrived, police found the vehicle, a Holden Rodeo ute, alight on the side of the road.
The single occupant of the vehicle died at the scene.
No further details about the person’s identity are available.
Sergeant Paul McCann from Chifley Local Area Command said the crash is being investigated by the Western Region Crash Investigation unit and police are now preparing a report for the coroner.
Late yesterday Sergeant McCann said police remained at the scene of the crash and were still in the process of recovering the victim’s body.
Yesterday’s fatality was one of four across the state, with Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, Assistant Commissioner John Hartley reminding all motorists to drive to the conditions and follow the road rules.
“Today we lost four lives on our roads – all of them tragedies that could have been avoided,” Assistant Commissioner Hartley said.
“Driving distracted, tired, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and failing to wear seat belts or correct helmets can easily lead to a fatal crash in a split second. For the sake of your loved ones, and for all other road users, follow the road rules and be alert to the conditions.”
