Not only were we interrupted by rain and then a big snowfall, but a massive number of fallen limbs and trees didn’t help.
Thanks to a great effort by half a dozen volunteers, the renovations were finished, but then came the big job of cleaning up the mess left after the snow and storms.
Some of the longer term members of the club could not remember so much damage to the trees.
Thanks to volunteers with tractors, bobcat, chainsaw and trucks, the mess was cleared.
Most of our golfers who played on Saturday did not understand how much work went into the course this week to make it playable.
The bulk of our membership owe a tremendous amount to a few dedicated members who keep the place running.
As a result of the snow and storm, the women didn’t play on Wednesday and there was no Thursday golf.
Members played a stroke/ stableford event on Saturday. It was a beautiful spring day and a good field played some very good golf.
Brian Roberts, hitting the ball very well, won A grade with 39 points.
Steve Serong, who got to know the course very well over the past week, was runner-up with 38 points.
Marty Hotham was in good touch and won B grade with 37 points. Doug Collins wasn’t far behind to be runner-up on a countback.
Nearest the pin on the first went to a new recruit, Chad Drury, Barry Lang took the seventh, Steve Serong was in good touch and won the ninth and Brian Roberts was closest on the 17th.
Balls went to Graham Hotham, Alan Cairney and Barry Lang. Seven of our members travelled to Henbury to play in the Blue Mountains Championships.
Marty Hotham was the only one to bring home trophies. He had a nearest the pin and B grade longest drive.
Next Sunday is Henbury Open Day. Golf next Saturday will be an individual stableford and mixed 4BBB sponsored by Harry Bennett of Lithgow Toyota.
