EPA director south branch Gary Whytcross said Borg Panels, which operates a large wood fibreboard production facility in Oberon, had been issued three penalty notices.
The notices were for the failure to conduct air monitoring at 11 of the company’s 13 monitoring points; failure to conduct groundwater monitoring; and exceeding water pollutant discharge limits.
“The EPA identified these breaches when the company submitted its annual return for the 2013- 14 reporting period on June, 5 2014,” he said.
“Borg Panels has been issued with three $1500 fines, but in future, offences of this seriousness and nature will attract fines of up to $15,000 under the EPA’s new penalties, which are the toughest in Australia.”
